The actual situation of art today is not a very important or adult concern; it is interesting only as a pronounced symptom of an ailing and aimless society. jh

Self-expression is not enough; experiment is not enough; the recording of special moments or cases is not enough. jh

 

 

 

 

33  Instrument (.......) Cannot make it with our ordinary instrument – out of the question. All the functions that are indispensable for outside life – equipment gained by education, instruction, imitation, influence – these functions cannot help me to find anything about myself  in right way – they just put themselves in the way and think they can do it. This is a terrible state. Must change place in myself – awaken all parts      Must have another instrument – if this is misunderstood we reach nothing.
